As a Registered Professional Counsellor – Candidate, I am committed to maintaining your confidentiality and privacy. All information shared during our sessions is kept strictly confidential, in accordance with Canadian privacy laws and CPCA ethical guidelines.
There are a few exceptions where confidentiality may be broken, such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if there is suspected child abuse, if medical records are subpoenaed by a court of law, or when consulting with other professionals, and for the purpose of supervision guidance. These exceptions would always be discussed with you first and written consent would be procured in the event of consulting with other professionals or speaking with a supervisor.
No, you are not obligated to continue sessions after our first meeting. The initial session is an opportunity for you to assess whether my approach and style are a good fit for your needs. You can decide to continue or not based on your comfort level and goals. Counselling is a collaborative process, and your autonomy is respected.
If you are late for a session, we will utilize the remaining time for our appointment. Unfortunately, late arrivals may not be able to extend session time, as it may affect my next client. If you are unable to attend a scheduled session, please inform me as soon as possible. A no-show or cancellation without adequate notice will incur a fee of $50.00, as outlined in our counselling agreement.
I require at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. This allows me to offer that time to another client. If you provide less notice, a cancellation fee of $50.00 will apply.
Yes, I provide receipts for all sessions attended. These receipts can then be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement, depending on your plan’s coverage for counselling services. It’s advisable to check with your insurance provider regarding their specific requirements for reimbursement.
Payment prior to the session helps to ensure that the scheduling and financial aspects of counselling are managed smoothly. Here are a few reasons why this policy is in place:
Commitment to the Process
Pre-payment can signify your commitment to the counselling process. It helps both you and I take the sessions seriously, fostering a productive therapeutic relationship.
Scheduling & Availability
By securing payment in advance, it allows me to allocate my time effectively. It reduces the likelihood of last-minute cancellations or no-shows, which can be disruptive to my counselling practice and may prevent other clients from accessing those time slots.
Administrative Efficiency
Handling payments beforehand simplifies the administrative process. It allows for a more streamlined experience during the session itself, enabling both myself and the client to focus on the therapeutic work rather than financial transactions.
Financial Security
I operate independently and do not have the financial backing that larger institutions have. Pre-payment ensures that I receive compensation for my time and expertise, which can be especially important in a field where cancellations can significantly impact income.
